2nd OpenMI-Life and Association Workshops On Integrated Modelling for Integrated Water Management
Date: 20-21 November 2007
Place: CEH, Wallingford, UK
The 2nd OpenMI-Life and OpenMI Association workshops on 20th and 21st November 2007 have four objectives:
- To report OpenMI-Life's progress in applying linked modelling to operational problems
- To learn about the application of integrated modelling by the competent authorities, consultants and model developers
- To report on the establishment of the OpenMI Association
- To develop the OpenMI Association's strategy for the development and promotion of the OpenMI - there will be a special open technical meeting on the 22nd to discuss and debate the technical strategy for the OpenMI
On Tuesday 20th November, the 2nd OpenMI-Life Workshop will present the results so far from seven applications of linked modelling by the competent authorities in the Netherlands, Belgium and Greece. All the examples are relevant to current Directives. They cover:
Welcome and Introduction
Urban Policy (Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive)
Flood Policy (Flood Directive)
- Scheldt Use Case B - Interactions between downstream and upstream river flow regulations
- Pinios Use Case B - Impact of climate change scenarios on the reliability of a reservoir
- Scheldt Use Case D - Tides and upstream flood risk
Water Policy (Water Framework Directive)
- Pinios Use Case A - The effect of advection - dispersion on sewage effluent discharge
- Scheldt Use Case C - The effect of flow regulation on water quality and water quality impacts during flooding
- Pinios Use Case C - The restoration of the Lake Karla wetlands
The OpenMI Association - where it's got to and where it's going
- Introduction to the OpenMI Association
- Support and development of the OpenMI
- OpenMI at BAW - Results from "real world" cases on the Ems and Elbe Estuary
- Surface Groundwater Interaction using OpenMI
- Use of the OpenMI by UK consultants
- Using integrated models to derive real-time control rules for treatment plant inlet
- Integrated Modelling in the UK Environment Agency
- The OpenMI in the US
- The OpenWeb - a platform for integrated modelling and building an integrated modelling community
- Distributed OpenMI
The workshop will also report briefly on the establishment of the OpenMI Association. This is a not for profit, non proprietary organisation, whose function is to promote and develop the OpenMI and support its users. It is currently funded by through the OpenMI-Life project.
In the morning of Wednesday 21st November, the OpenMI Association Workshop will provide an opportunity to hear reports on the practical application of integrated modelling by the competent authorities, consultants and model developers.
In the afternoon, there will be two parallel sessions A and B.
A. is an open session for developing strategy. It is hoped that as many as possible of our guests will attend and contribute their views as to how they would like to see both the OpenMI and Association develop.
B. is a session for project members to discuss and work together on project issues. It is also the period for the 'hands on' sessions requested at 1st Workshop.
In the morning of Thursday 22nd November, there will be an OpenMI Association Technical Meeting, to which guests are warmly invited. It will discuss Version 2.0 of the OpenMI and the long term technical strategy.
The workshop will take place at the
Centre for Ecology and Hydrology

UK
If you would like to participate in the workshop please fill in the registration form before 2nd November 2007.
